Application & Renewal Details

Getting started: Submit your application through the Sheriff’s Permitium portal. Training is not required before your initial interview.
Renewals: The Sheriff recommends beginning the renewal process six months before your permit expires.
Firearms: The permit can list up to six firearms. You must pass qualification with each one.
Firearm changes: Riverside allows two firearm-addition/removal modifications per year. Submit a qualification sheet for each new firearm and list all firearms you want retained on the permit.

Application & Renewal Details

Getting started: City of Los Angeles applicants should contact CCWProcessing@LAPD.online for application instructions. LAPD is separate from the Los Angeles County Sheriff.
Initial training: Wait for LAPD’s authorization, then complete and document training within 90 days of the approval letter.
Renewals: Begin 90 days before expiration. Complete training before expiration and no earlier than six months beforehand. Follow LAPD’s current renewal Live Scan instructions.
Firearms: LAPD allows a maximum of three firearms, with qualification required for each. Contact its CCW Unit before changing firearms on an issued permit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which agencies is this accepted by?

Our course satisfies the 16-hour initial and 8-hour renewal training requirements under California Penal Code § 26165. Millennia Defense is accepted by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department for both online and in-person CCW training and is an approved online vendor for Riverside County non-resident CCW training. We are also approved by the Los Angeles Police Department for in-person CCW initial and renewal training, as well as online non-resident CCW training.

Do I have to come in person at any point?

Yes — once. The academic portion is fully online and self-paced. After you complete it, you'll attend one live-fire qualification at Rancho Magnum Range in Rancho Cucamonga.

How long do I have to finish the online portion?

You can start and stop anytime. Most students complete the initial course in 2–4 sessions and the renewal in a single sitting.

What do I need to bring to the range qualification?

Bring each firearm you intend to list on your permit, eye and hearing protection, and your online course completion certificate.

Riverside County Sheriff applicants: You may list up to six firearms and must qualify with each. Bring at least 50 rounds per firearm as Millennia Defense’s preparation requirement.

LAPD applicants: You may list up to three firearms and must qualify with each. We recommend bringing 100 rounds for your first firearm and 50 rounds for each additional firearm.

Follow the agency-specific preparation instructions in your appointment confirmation. Qualification takes place at Rancho Magnum Range in Rancho Cucamonga.

Is live-fire qualification included in the online course price?

No. A separate $30 qualification fee applies to online initial and renewal courses. After completing your online instruction, email training@millenniadefense.com to schedule your qualification at Rancho Magnum Range.

What if I'm not a Riverside County resident?

Millennia Defense is approved to provide CCW training for Riverside County, LAPD, Arizona nonresident permits, and Florida nonresident permits. We do not currently provide county-approved CCW courses for San Bernardino, San Diego, or Orange counties. California CCW training approval is issuing-agency specific, so confirm your agency’s approved providers before enrolling. Eligible out-of-state applicants seeking a California permit through the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department should begin with our Non-CA Resident CCW course.
